Green Dragons hit 20 3s in rout of Clay County

Harlan senior forward Jaedyn Gist went up for a dunk as part of his 27-point performance in the Green Dragons’ 110-78 win over visiting Clay County.

The Harlan Green Dragons broke out of a recent slump in a big way Saturday afternoon at the Doc Gray Classic, hitting 20 3-pointers in a 110-78 rout of visiting Clay County.
Senior forward Jaedyn Gist and freshman guard Dylan Cox each scored 27 points to lead the 21-4 Dragons. The Dragons placed five in double figures as Kaleb McLendon added 20, followed by Kyler McLendon with 17 and Will Austin with 11.
Sophomore guard Landon Dezarn led the 11-11 Tigers with 29 points. Ethan Jackson scored 17, followed by Aiden Wagers with 15 and Hayden Harris with 11.
The Green Dragons built a 28-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 59-37 advantage into the locker room at halftime. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Harlan had an 86-64 edge.
Clay played Harlan much tougher at home, falling 88-86 on Jan. 12.
Harlan will return to action Tuesday at Harlan County in a district doubleheader. The Dragons play at Knott Central on Wednesday and play host to Knox Central on Thursday before closing their regular-season schedule Saturday at South Laurel.

Clay County claimed a 46-34 victory in junior varsity action as Landon Howard scored 17 and Noah Collett added 13 for the Tigers. Conner Gilbert tossed in seven, followed by Landon Smith with five and Jay Nicholson with four.
Dylan Cox scored 13 and Connor Daniels added nine for the 1-4 Dragons. Nate Montanaro tossed in five, with Matthew Pennington adding four and Jake Brewer scoring three.
