Harlan coach Derrick Akal, pictured talking with his team during a game earlier this season, was named the KABC Coach of the Year for the 13th Region after leading the Dragons to a 23-6 mark this season.

Harlan coach Derrick Akal was named the KABC Coach of the Year for the 13th Region after leading the Dragons to a 23-6 mark heading into the 52nd District Tournament. The Dragons are ranked 16th in the state by the RPI system and nave enjoyed two nine-game winning streaks and won a fourth straight All “A” Classic regional title. Akal has compiled a 93-77 record in six seasons as coach, leading the Dragons five straight appearances in the 13th Region Tournament.
