Redskins, Patriots open middle school season with wins

Cumberland’s Hunter Fuson made a diving catcher during the Redskins’ 12-3 win at Letcher Central on Thursday in middle school baseball action.

Both the Cumberland and New Harlan baseball teams opened their middle school seasons Thursday with road victories as the Redskins won 12-3 at Letcher Central and the Patriots won 12-2 at Shelby Valley.
Brayden Howard led the Redskins with a double and single. Kayden Adams, Hunter Fuson and Gavvin Lloyd added two singles each with Lloyd driving in three runs. Braxton Bowen contributed one single.
Hayden Cornett pitched three innings with one strikeout to earn the win on the mound. Zayden Casolari pitched one inning with two strikeouts.
Grant Shelton pounded out two singles to lead the Patriots. Jesse Gilbert had a double. Brayden Morris and Andrew Vance added singles.
Gilbert earned the win as he struck out 12 and allowed two hits over five innings. Ethan Stewart gave up one hit in one inning with two strikeouts.
