Lady Skins coast past Barbourville, edge Harlan

Cumberland blew open a close game by scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 14-1 win Thursday against Barbourville in middle school softball action.
Aly Sherman pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk to earn the win in the circle while adding two triples and a single to lead the offense. Katie Smith contributed a triple and single. Lexi Boggs and Paisley Hendrickson contributed a double and single each. Sienna Banks doubled twice. Julionna Johnson added a single.
Cumberland edged Harlan 3-2 on Monday as Sherman outdueled Adelynn Burgan by pitching a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and six walks.
Boggs led the Cumberland offense with a double and single. Sherman singled twice.
Burgan struck out six and walked five.
Gracie Hensley had the hit for Harlan with a double in the fifth inning.
The Lady Skins’ rally fell short by leaving the bases loaded in the fourth inning in an 11-10 loss to Letcher Central on Wednesday.
Boggs had a double and two singles to lead the Lady Skins. Sherman added a double and single. Hendrickson singled twice. Sidney Jenkins had a double. Johnson added a single.
Sherman struck out four and walked four while giving up six hits.
The 4-4 Lady Skins play host to Harlan on Monday.

 

Bears overpower Bell, Lee in middle school baseball

Harlan County rolled to a 19-5 win over visiting Bell County in middle school baseball action Thursday.
Colby Shepherd, Bryson Kelly and Jesse Gilbert led the Bears on offense with doubles. Brayden Morris, Hunter Coker and Sabby Mosley added singles.
Gilbert struck out four as he didn’t allow an earned run in four innings on the mound.

Harlan County coasted past visiting Lee, Va., 13-3 on Friday as Ethan Stewart pitched four innings and allowed three unearned runs while striking out five.
Morris and Shepherd led the Harlan County with a triple and single each. Gilbert had a double and single. Mosley contributed a double. Coker added a single.
The 7-2 Bears play at Harlan on Monday and take on Letcher on Thursday at home.

 

Adams, Jackson lead Redskins to win over Pike Central

Kayden Adams and Kyllian Jackson had three hits each as Cumberland improved to 6-0 on the season in middle school basetball action with an 8-4 win at Pike Central.
Hunter Fuson added a triple and single. Braxton Bowen, Gavvin Lloyd and Hayden Cornett contributed two singles each. Brayden Howard added a double. Zayden Casolari had a single.
Casolari struck out seven as he pitched 5 2/3 innings. Lloyd also recorded an out.
