Harlan’s Jordyn Smith pitched a no-hitter Monday in the Lady Dragons’ win over Harlan County.

Smith pitches no-hitter as Lady Dragons defeat Harlan County

Jordyn Smith pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks as Harlan downed visiting Harlan County 7-1 on Monday in middle school softball action.
Smith also led Harlan on offense with a triple and single. Gracie Hensley had a double. Lacey Lemarr added a single.
Harlan fell to Jackson County in the All “A” tournament last week and will play in a league tournament this weekend.

 

Gilbert, Shelton lead Bears past Middlesboro

Harlan County downed Middlesboro 9-5 in middle school baseball action Monday. Jesse Gilbert struck out nine and walked one while giving up two earned runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings. Ethan Stewart recorded the final two outs, giving up two unearned runs and three hits.
Grant Shelton led the Bears at the plate with a double and single. Brayden Morris added a triple. Stewart and Andrew Vance had singles.
The Bears play at Fleming-Neon on Tuesday, then begin state tournament play Friday at Pikeville agains the host the Panthers. Harlan County will play Betsy Layne at noon on Saturday and take on Fairview at 2:30 p.m.
