Harlan County’s Jesse Gilbert, pictured in action earlier this season, pitched a complete game Monday as the Bears downed Leslie County 9-5.

Gilbert pitches complete game as Bears down Leslie

Jesse Gilbert pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks as Harlan County improved to 11-5 in middle school baseball action with a 9-5 win Tuesday over visiting Leslie County.
Gilbert also led the Bears’ offense with ad double and single. Bryson Kelly singled twice. Grant Shelton added a double. Ethan Stewart and Hunter Coker contributed singles.
The Bears return to action Friday at home against Knox Central.

 

Redskins split two games in state competition

Cumberland split two games Saturday in middle school state tournament action at Prestonsburg, falling 15-2 to Johnson Central and defeating Leslie County 9-6.
Hayden Cornett pitched five innings with three strikeouts in the win over Leslie. Byron Shepherd pitched the final inning.
Hunter Fuson led the Redskins on offense with two singles. Brayden Howard had a double. Braxton Bowen, Kayden Adams and Cornett added one single each.
Howard and Clark each had singles against Johnson Central. Carson Clark and Kayden Casolari each pitched two innings.
The Redskins are 7-2 on the season.

Harlan County lost three games in tournament play, falling 10-5 to Pikeville, 18-1 to Betsy Layne and 19-3 to Fairview.
