Harlan’s Eli Freyer, pictured in action earlier this season, collected three hits Wednesday and was the winning pitcher as the Green Dragons rallied for a 13-10 win over visiting Leslie County.

After watching visiting Leslie County scored nine runs in the third inning, the Harlan Green Dragons took over from there and rallied for a 13-10 victory to close their home schedule.
Eighth-grader Eli Freyer pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings in relief to earn the win before Baylor Varner struck out the side in the seventh to earn the save. Freyer gave up three hits and two walks.
“It was really good to finish the regular season at home with a win. I’m really proud of this group. They’ve faced a lot of adversity and keep playing for each other,” Harlan coach Lee Freyer said. “Eli played a great game tonight. Jared Moore came up to me after the game with a game ball and said this one is for Eli. He came in and didn’t allow a run on the mound and led the team with three hits.”
Freyer drove in three runs with three hits in four at bats. Aiden Johnson and Brody Owens added two singles each. Moore had a double. Jake Brewer added a single and scored three runs.
Moore started on the mound for the Dragons and gave up 10 runs (only three earned) over 2 2/3 innings.
Dalton Baker and Nathan Shell led Leslie County with three hits each. Jesse Osborne had two hits and two RBI.
“We’ve been down a few players here lately. I’m really proud of Cameren Maples,” Freyer said. “He came in tonight and played right for us and make some great defensive plays out there. He’s one of those kids that gives everything his has no matter what his role is that day. Today his number was called and he played great.”
Harlan (12-12) will travel to Perry Central on Thursday to close the regular season.
