Noah scores 43 as Black Bears down Hazard to complete sweep

Harlan County guard Trent Noah hit nine 3-pointers in a 43-point effort as the Bears downed Hazard 75-63 on Tuesday.

HAZARD — Harlan County senior Trent Noah has put on more than a few shooting clinics as a two-time all-stater with over 2,500 points scored in his high school career. He did it again Tuesday in a summer scrimmage at Memorial Gymnasium, pouring in 43 points as the Bears capped a 2-0 day with a 75-63 victory over Hazard.
Noah had the Bears’ first 17 points in building a 17-5 lead. He scored 33 in the first half, with the help of seven 3-pointers, as HCHS took a 39-31 lead. Hazard got as close as five in the second half before Noah, Maddox Huff and Jaycee Carter put the Bears back in control.
Carter finished with 12 points, followed by Huff with nine, Caleb Johnson with seven and Brody Napier with two.
Harlan County dominated all the way in an 89-50 rout of Perry Central in the opening scrimmage. Noah scored 21, followed by Carter with 15, Johnson with 14 and Huff with 12. Reggie Cottrell, Brennan Blevins, Shemar Carr and Cole Cornett scored four each. Landon Brock and Aidan Reynolds added two each.
Harlan County downed Perry Central 44-41 in junior varsity action. Blevins’ 3 put the Bears up by one in the final minute, then Brock had a basket and two free throws to close the scoring.
The Bears fell 36-31 to Hazard in freshman action.
Harlan County (12-1 in varsity action) will play in a tournament over the weekend at Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville.
