The Harlan County Lady Bears bounced back from a disappointing three-set district loss Tuesday at home against Bell County with a three-set district victory Thursday at home against Middlesboro.
The Lady Bears lost a chance to claim the district’s top seed on Tuesday but moved within one win of the second seed by downing Middlesboro 25-8, 25-10, 25-12 despite struggling at times through stretches of unforced errors and bad serves. The Lady Bears improved to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in district action with one district game left next week at home against Harlan.
Savannah Hill led the Lady Bears with 18 assists, five digs, four service aces and two kills. Ashton Evans had seven aces, five digs, five kills and two assists. Kalista Dunn contributed eight kills, six digs and three assists. Kylee Hoiska had six kills and five digs. Destiny Cornett contributed three aces, three digs and two kills. Lesleigh Brown added four aces and three digs. Rileigh Duff had three digs and one kill.

HCHS won 21-14, 21-13 in junior varsity action.
The Lady Bears play in the First Priority Lady Colonel Volleyball Classic on Saturday at Whitley County. The 4-7 Lady Jackets return to action Tuesday at Barbourville.

Middlesboro claimed a 25-17, 25-18. 21-25, 26-24 victory at Red Bird on Monday.
Julia Ramirez led the Lady Jackets with 15 blocks, 12 service aces and three kills. Keylee Ayers added seven aces and seven kills. Maleah Crenshaw contributed seven aces, seven kills and two blocks. Sudie Howerton had five kills and four aces. Leah Spencer added six kills and two aces.

A powerful Whitley County squad coasted to a 25-4, 25-9 win Thursday at Harlan.
Annie Hoskins led Harlan with five digs and four blocks. Mallory McNiel added four digs and one ace. Tess Bryson had six digs. Ava Nunez added five digs. Halle Cox and Raegan Goodman chipped in with three digs each.
The 1-14 Lady Dragons travel to Hazard on Saturday.
