The Bell County boys wrestling team opened its season in grand fashion Tuesday at Barbourville High School in duals against Barbourville and Lynn Camp. The girls also returned to action and dominated the competition.
The boys defeated Barbourville 84-0 and beat Lynn Camp 78-6. Hayden Canady had two wins with two pins and totaled nine takedowns for the evening. Payton Burnett also had two pins in the duals. Sophomore heavyweight Johnathan Tapp also had two wins by pin. Other wrestlers posting wins vs. Barbourville were Shelby Collins, Logan Fuson, Matthew Dowlin, Aden England, Isaiah Troutman, Matthew Howard, Jacob Brannon, Blake Lambert, Ashton Jordan, Brayden Pace and Tyler Hoskins.
Troutman had his second win of the night against Lynn Camp when he pinned his opponent in the second period. Howard and Dowlin also picked up wins by pin in the dual. Several others picked up wins in the dual including Collins, Fuson, Chase Berry, Hunter Goodin, Lambert, Jordan, and Pace.
Aidan Warren and Brannon picked up official victories by pin in extra matches.
On the girls’ side, eighth grader Ireland Stigal got her first career victory with a pin and also picked up a second win by forfeit. Alexis Holman followed up her championship from this past weekend with two victories with one coming by way of a pin in 1:38 over Barbourville’s Aven Wagener. Jojo Inman pinned her Lynn Camp opponent in just 29 seconds for her second win of the night. Hannah Fetters also picked up a win by pin against Barbourville giving her two victories for the night. Keira Good, Shelby Collins, and Grace Helton all picked up two wins during the duals for the girls.
Both teams will return to action on Dec. 6 at Bell County High School. Both teams (2-0) will take on Claiborne, Tenn. and Lee, Va.
