Getting a lead hasn’t been much of a problem this season for the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets. Keeping it has been an entirely different story.
Middlesboro overcame an early 8-0 deficit with 12 straight points and led the rest of the half, but visiting Corbin took control in the third quarter on the way to a 73-48 victory Friday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Eighth-grade guard Ryder Akins kept Corbin in the game in the first half and led the 19-8 Hounds with 27 points as he hit seven 3-pointers. Zander Curry and Eli Pietrowski added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Senior guard Cayden Grigsby led the 10-20 Jackets with 20 points. Jerimah Beck added nine.
Middlesboro plays Harlan County at 7 on Tuesday in the 52nd District Tournament. Corbin will play Williamsburg on Tuesday in the 50th District Tournament.
