Former Harlan basketball standout Dickie Parsons had his jersey retired during ceremonies at Harlan High School in the 1990s. Parsons, pictured with Harlan Independent Schools Superintendent David Johnson, was a second-team all-stater in 1957 before going on to play basketball and baseball at the University of Kentucky. Parsons was the head baseball coach at UK from 1970 to 1972 and was an assistant coach from 1970 to 1980 with the UK basketball program, first with Adolph Rupp and then under Joe Hall.
