Bears defeat Clay, Metcalfe in a pair of summer scrimmages

Senior guard Maddox Huff, pictured in action earlier this summer, scored 25 points against Clay County and 29 against Metcalfe County in two HCHS wins Wednesday.

In a rematch of last year’s regional semifinals, Harlan County traveled to Clay County on Wednesday and left with a 60-49 victory over the Tigers.
Senior guard Maddox Huff score 25 points and senior center Jaycee Carter added 16 for the Bears. Brody Napier chipped in with nine points. Trent Cole scored six, and Reggie Cottrell added four.
Huff was one of four Bears in double figures with 29 points in a 78-65 win over Metcalfe County. Cole tossed in 12. Carter and Cottrell added 11 each. Napier scored seven. Brennan Blevins and Cole Cornett added four each.
Cornett hit the winning shot in the final seconds as part of an 11-point effort in a 44-42 win over Metcalfe County in junior varsity action. Brock and Brody Freeman scored eight each. Brady Smith tossed in six. Hayden Grace added five. Bryson Bryant contributed four. Thyler Coots scored two.
Grace scored eight and Cornett added seven as HÇHS downed Knott Central 43-33. Brock, Freeman and Smith tossed in six each. Bryant chipped in with four. Tucker Çurtis, Ryan Day and Rydge Lewis scored two each.
