Cawood won its first and only regional baseball title in 1982, defeating Hazard in the 14th Region Tournament finals. The Trojans defeated Johnson Central in the sectional before falling a game short of the state final four with a loss to Middlesboro. Cawood High School Principal Josh Hensley is pictured presenting the championship trophy to coach Basil Mills. Other team members pictured include William Hatfield, David Hensley, Robbie Burns, Jimmy Gross, Gregg Osborne, John Stepp, Buddy Howard Tracy Blanton, Eddie Hampton, Keith Hensley and Jack Hampton.

Third baseman David Hensley and coach Basil Mills helped lead Cawood to the 14th Region baseball title in 1982. Mills coached regional championship teams in girls basketball and baseball. Hensley was a three-sport standout who went on to play at Eastern Kentucky University.
