The Appalachian Athletics Varner team won the Dragon Classic on June 8-9 and finished second in the Father’s Day Classic Knoxville on June 15-16.
Baylor Varner led the local squad on offense in the Dragon Classic with four hits, four runs scored and five stolen bases. He also pitched five innings and earned a win with five strikeouts.
Jared Moore added three hits with a homer and four RBI. He pitched 4 1/3 innings with a win and gave up three hits.
Chris Rouse had three hits with three stolen bases.
Zach Boggs and Caiden Jackson chipped in with one hit each.
Brody Owens had six hits in 10 at bats in the Father’s Day Classic. He struck out eight as he pitched 5 1/3 innings.
Varner struck out nine in 3 2/3 innings on the mound. Moore struck out two in 4 1/3 innings. Brewer struck out two in two innings.
The team will play at Union College next weekend in the Battle of Eastern Kentucky.
