Tri City, Harlan stay alive with blowout wins in District 4 action

It was a good day for Harlan County teams in the District 4 East Tournament (ages 9-10) on Sunday in Benham as Tri City downed Middlesboro-Pineville-Bell (MPB) 13-10 in the opening game and Harlan rolled past Leslie County 23-11 before Hazard-Perry defeated Knox County 14-4 in the winners bracket finals to conclude the evening.
Harlan and Tri City will square off today at 7 with the winner playing Knox County on Tuesday to determine the tourney runner-up and a berth in the four-team district tournament.

Tyson Surber led a 13-hit Tri City attack with three singles and a walk in four at bats. Truett Baldwin also added three singles with two RBI. Javante Stewart, Hutton Sherman and Trace Staten had two singles each. Adam McClain added one single.
Surber also earned the win on the mound as he struck out eight and walked four in 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on five hits. Brennan Huddleston started and gave up five runs on one hit in 1 2/3 innings, with three strikeouts and four walks.
Keon Brown led MPB with two singles. Jackson Berry had a three-run triple. Tucker Wyatt added a double. Jace Baker contributed a single.
C.J. Sharpe gave up 12 runs on nine hits in 1 1/3 innings on the mound. Nathan Marsee allowed one run on four hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Harlan exploded for 15 runs in the first inning on the way to a four-inning victory that included 16 hits. Lakin Smith and Deacon Lisenbee had three hits each in three at bats with Smith doubling once. Landen Spurlock added a double and single. Maddox Landa singled twice. Bentley Colinger added an RBI triple. Grant Caldwell contributed an RBI double. Weston Nolan, Maddox Helton, Sawyer Shackleford and Colt Sullivan added one single each.
Colinger, Spurlock, Sullivan, Lisenbee and Shackleford all saw action on the mound.
Weston Simpson had a double and Ian Hayes added a single for Leslie County. Cade Couch, Jackson Brunk and Hayes split mound duty.
