The Harlan County Lady Bears took half a set Tuesday to get going after a big opening-match win a day earlier over South Laurel, but took over eventually on the way to a 25-13, 25-6, 25-11 rout of visiting Barbourville.
Barbourville led 9-7 in the opening set before reeling off seven unanswered points to take control. Madilynn Nolan scored several service points during the run, then Kalista Dunn closed the set with two straight kills.
Kylee Hoiska and Nolan dominated the net in the second set as the Lady Bears took control early. Dunn closed with three straight service points.
Dunn had 11 aces, nine digs, eight kills and one assist to lead the Lady Bears. Nolan added five aces, three kills and one block. Savannah Hill had her usual big assist night with 24, along with four digs, two aces and two kills. Ashlynn Williamson had nine digs and one ace. Hoiska contributed eight kills, along with two digs, one ace and one block. Ashton Evans added nine digs, six kills, one ace and one assist. Alexis Adams had one dig. Sophie Day and Karli Shoupe also saw varsity action.
The 2-0 Lady Bears close their opening week Thursday at home against Leslie County.
