The Harlan cross country teams traveled to Jonesville, Va., on Saturday to compete in the Battle at the Bowl.
“The Battle at the Bowl was a challenging race. Our runners’ performances are not reflected in their times so much as their placements. Each runner on our team showed up to compete today and ‘conquered the bowl,’” Harlan cross country coach Anne Lindsey said.
The boys and girls elementary teams finished first with 15 points and second with 39 points, respectively.
Tucker White won the boys elementary race with a time of 5:12.21. He was immediately followed by Aiden Browning (5:15.19). Kash Bailey finished fourth with a time of 5:22.96. Rounding out the results were Xander Owens (seventh, 5:38.76), Thomas Miller (ninth, 5:49.03), Ben Parsons (10th, 5:50.37), Kelton Dean (11th, 5:51.72), Braxton Sizemore (12th, 5:52.69), Canaan Bolton (17th, 6:06.38), Emmett Alred (18th, 6:12.56), Andrew Alred (22nd, 6:27.28), Rhett Davis (25th, 6:54.24), Ashwin Ghanti (30th, 7:49.45), Gunner Green (31st, 8:00.85) and Parker Hensley (36th, 8:59.89).
To lead the girls, Julianne Miller placed fifth with a time of 5:32.55. Cora Jones (15th) finished with a time of 6:01.60. Josephine Toll was 20th with a time of 6:24.34, immediately followed by McKinley Taylor (6:25.85). Other finishers were Mallory Sizemore (23rd, 6:36.01), Emma McMillian (26th, 6:56.13), Meredith Lawson (27th, 7:01.93), Shelby Parsons (28th, 7:02.80), Lucy Miller (29th, 7:13.00), Amelia Hensley (32nd, 8:20.24), Rayleigh Harris (33rd, 8:22.12), Leah Burkhart (34th, 8:24.37), Micah Rowe (37th, 12:52.34) and McKenzie Collett (38th, 13:15.55).
“Our elementary teams did amazing. They loved the challenging nature of the course and it really showed in their performances today,” Lindsey said. “We’re all very proud of them.”
Zoe Lawson finished fourth with a time of 13:31.59 in the girls middle school race. Priscilla Stewart was sixth with a time of 13:56.46.
In the boys middle school race, Cooper Thomas (11:38.78) placed fifth. Jett Luttrell finished 18th with a time of 16:07.48.
“Zoe, Priscilla and Cooper each medaled in their middle school races,” Lindsey said.
Harper Carmical finished second overall with a time of 24:13.35 in the high school girls race. Abbigaile Jones was fifth with a time of 27:57.85.
“Harper and Abbie both medaled for the girls varsity,” Lindsey said.
Xavier Farley placed 17th with a time of 27:03.23 in the high school boys race.
Harlan will return to action Tuesday at Harlan County for an all comers meet.
