The Harlan Green Dragons traveled to Berea on Saturday to compete in the Berea Community Invitational.
“We enjoyed a good race in Berea today,” Harlan cross country coach Anne Lindsey said. “We’re battling some illness and injury with some of our runners, but those who were healthy really performed well today.”
In the girls varsity race, Harper Carmical finished 23rd with a time of 22:39.88. Abbigaile Jones (55th) finished with a time of 25:24.91. Priscilla Stewart (25:43.06) and Zoe Lawson (26:45.94) were 60th and 69th, respectively.
“For our girls, Abbie, Harper, Zoe and Priscilla represented our team. Zoe and Priscilla made their high school debut and ran well in a large and competitive race. We know that this is just the beginning of some great runs for them,” Lindsey said. “Abbie and Harper continue to mentor our younger runners. They both performed really well today and demonstrated grit and perseverance for a strong race.”
Cooper Thomas placed 105th with a time of 22:42.22 in the boys varsity race. Xavier Farley was 132nd with a time of 24:40.78.
“Cooper and Xavier both ran well for our boys team. This was Cooper’s first high school race of the season, and he started very strong,” Lindsey said. “Xavier continues to get stronger each week.”
Harlan’s next meet will be Saturday at the Colby Slusher Invitational at Pineville.
