Harlan County’s elementary cross country team competed in an open meet in Corbin on Thursday.
In the fourth-grade through sixth-grade girls race, Ella Brock placed eighth to lead the girls to a third-place finish. Krislyn Clem was 15th. Paisleigh Asher finished 32nd. Madelyn Craig and Madilyn Turner placed 39th and 42nd, respectively. Emily McKnight was 45th.
Hutton Sherman finished fourth to lead the fourth-grade through sixth-grade boys to a fourth-place finish. Logan Mills placed ninth. Jace Hensley and Dalton Johnson were 24th and 29th, respectively. Other finishers were Levi Hensley (31st), Colton Hensley (40th), Hunter Evans (47th), Jase Sargent (53rd), Jordan Sargent (55th) and Jonah Doyle (56th).
No times were available for the fourth-grade through sixth-grade races.
Bella Burkhart was third with a time of 10:27.18 to lead the kindergarten through third-grade girls to a third-place finish. Ellianna Carver (15th) finished with a time of 11:41.50. Lakynn Clem placed 17th with a time of 11:51.75. Rounding out the results were Landri Dagnan (26th, 12:50.66), Kaylyn Lawson (27th, 12:54.84), Kadie Lawson (28th, 12:59.12), Kellee Doyle (31st, 13:19.06) and Sawyer Millikan (39th, 14:59.15).
The kindergarten through third-grade boys placed seventh. Tate Sherman finished second with a time of 9:05.71. Skylar Boggs was 29th with a time of 11:28.53. Eli McKnight (13:29.38) placed 43rd. Micah Lawson was 54th with a time of 17:28.50, immediately followed by Oliver Hensley (17:41.29).
“On Thursday, we ran at Corbin Primary for the first time. Running a new course is always a bit intimidating,” Harlan County cross country coach Jennifer Brock said. “I know the kids were anxious about the unknown, but they killed it! We had many 2K PRs and season bests. There were a lot of kids that didn’t get to run this race and our team finishes were still great. I love watching these kids cheer for and encourage one another. They make me so proud!”
The Harlan County elementary squad returns to action Monday at Lynn Camp in the Region 13 championship.
