The Harlan Green Dragons traveled to Williamsburg on Saturday to compete in the Fog River Run Invitational.
In the girls varsity race, Harper Carmical finished 15th with a time of 24:35.95. Abbigaile Jones was 17th with a time of 25:23.43. Zoe Lawson (19th) finished with a time of 25:44.60. She was immediately followed by Priscilla Stewart (26:11.88).
Dylan Cox placed 20th with a time of 22:34.36 in the boys varsity race. Cooper Thomas finished 25th with a time of 23:01.73, immediately followed by Xavier Farley (23:19.29). Jett Luttrell (28:58.99) was 34th.
“We had a great race at the Fog River Invitational. Our high school runners performed well. We are working hard to prepare for the postseason,” Harlan cross country coach Anne Lindsey said. “Every competition, practice and recovery effort is geared to help us achieve our postseason goal. I’m proud of the work our runners are displaying and the effort and commitment they show each week.”
The kindergarten through third-grade girls and boys won their respective races.
McKinley Taylor won the girls race with a time of 10:36.17. Mallory Sizemore finished fourth with a time of 11:11.44. She was immediately followed by Lucy Miller (11:12.68) and Shelby Parsons (11:27.88). Rounding out the results were Meredith Lawson (eighth, 11:57.94), McKenzie Collett (20th, 16:53.83) and Micah Rowe (21st, 17:02.78).
Kash Bailey finished third with a time of 9:19.91 in the boys race. Ben Parsons (9:41.40) and Kelton Dean (9:57.83) were sixth and eighth, respectively. Other finishers were Emmett Alred (13th, 10:39.38), Rhett Davis (14th, 10:41.81), Jess Bennett (26th, 13:56.82), Mason Howard (27th, 15:26.67) and Parker Hensley (29th, 18:53.03).
The fourth-grade through sixth-grade girls and boys won as well.
To lead the girls, Julianne Miller won with a time of 9:27.61. She was immediately followed by Cora Jones (10:12.12) and Josephine Toll (10:41.66). Emma McMillian placed ninth with a time of 12:53.26. Shelbee Miller (13th) finished with a time of 14:35.91.
In the boys race, Aiden Browning placed second with a time of 8:55.86. Xander Owens finished fourth with a time of 9:30.04, immediately followed by Thomas Miller (9:45.09). Canaan Bolton was seventh with a time of 10:08.83. He was immediately followed by Andrew Alred (10:10.91).
“Our elementary runners had great performances yesterday. We were so excited to see top-10 performances from so many of our young runners, many of whom earned their first cross country medals in this race,” Lindsey said. “We saw them run with strength and maturity as they raced not only for themselves but also for their team. We couldn’t be more proud of them. We hope to carry this momentum into Monday night’s race at Lynn Camp.”
The Harlan elementary teams’ next meet will be Monday at Lynn Camp in the Region 13 championship.
The varsity teams will return to action Saturday at Harlan County to compete in the Coach Bob Howard Memorial CC Invitational/Area 9 Championships.

Tanner Daniels competed in the Great American XC Festival in Cary, North Carolina on Thursday. He placed 28th with a time of 16:28.10.
