The Harlan Green Dragons participated in the Cave Lake Fall Classic at Monticello on Saturday.
“Our runners have made such great progress this season. We’ve worked incredibly hard to prepare for the postseason competition, always hoping to have our peak performances at just the right time,” Harlan cross country coach Anne Lindsey said. “Our tradition has been to run at Wayne County the week before region. We call it our ‘dress rehearsal.’ Although it was bad timing for us this year with fall break and some unexpected illnesses, those who were able to compete performed well.”
In the girls varsity race, Abbigaile Jones finished 35th with a time of 24:22.45. Priscilla Stewart placed 44th with a time of 25:11.81. Zoe Lawson (59th) finished with a time of 27:07.05.
“Abbie helped guide our young runners, Zoe and Priscilla, through their first time on the high school course,” Lindsey said. “There was some intense fog at the beginning of their race, which resulted in a little timidity, but they finished the course strong.”
In the boys varsity race, Dylan Cox placed 39th with a time of 20:46.74. Cooper Thomas was 58th with a time of 21:42.60. Xavier Farley (22:17.49) finished 67th.
“Dylan, Cooper and Xavier all ran very well,” Lindsey said.
The elementary boys placed fifth overall, while the elementary girls finished sixth.
Aiden Browning finished 18th with a time of 6:58.52 in the boys elementary race. Kash Bailey (20th) and Braxton Sizemore (25th) finished with times of 7:03.42 and 7:06.72, respectively. Tucker White was 29th with a time of 7:11.85. Rounding out the results were Canaan Bolton (43rd, 7:33.56), Thomas Miller (58th, 7:52.35), Kelton Dean (82nd, 8:19.41), Emmett Alred (84th, 8:24.15), Andrew Alred (97th, 8:44.56) and Gunner Green (149th, 15:17.57).
In the girls elementary race, Julianne Miller placed fifth with a time of 7:00.01. Josephine Toll (7:55.81) finished 33rd. Mallory Sizemore was 62nd with a time of 8:28.21. Other finishers were McKinley Taylor (73rd, 8:42.83), Meredith Lawson (75th, 8:45.28), Lucy Miller (85th, 9:03.34) and Shelbee Miller (126th, 10:45.79).
“We anticipate significant improvements in race times when we compete at region on Saturday,” Lindsey said. “We couldn’t be more proud of our runners and we’re excited to watch them continue to develop their skill.”
Harlan will return to action Saturday at Monticello for the KHSAA Class A, Region 6 meet.
