The Harlan cross country team had a strong showing Saturday as they competed in the KHSAA cross county state championship at Lexington.
“Wow! What a great end to our cross country season. Our runners have accomplished much more than personal records and accolades this season,” Harlan cross country coach Anne Lindsey said. “They have persevered through setbacks throughout the season; whether because of injuries, illness or scheduling conflicts.
“Despite the obstacles, our guys and gals continued to experience personal and team growth this season.”
Tanner Daniels finished seventh overall with a time of 16:43.33 to represent the boys.
“Tanner represented our boys team at the state competition. Watching him push himself and prepare for this race in particular has been inspiring,” Lindsey said. “He works extremely hard and remains dedicated and focused every single day. He ran really well on Saturday. He gave it everything he had. The future is bright for him.”
Harper Carmical finished 49th with a time of 22:33.98 in the girls varsity race. Abbigaile Jones placed 96th with a time of 24:13.40. Priscilla Stewart was 115th with a time of 24:51.06. Zoe Lawson (136th) finished with a time of 25:38.69.
“Abbie, Harper, Zoe and Priscilla represented our girls team so well at state,” Lindsey said. “Abbie competed in her final race, ran with determination and helped to lead our younger girls who experienced state for the first time. Zoe and Priscilla enjoyed the experience of racing in the competitive state competition. The environment is so energetic and electric. This is something they’ve both been thinking about since elementary school, so to watch them have their first state experience was truly an honor.
“Harper ran very well. She had a great season, pushing herself to new heights and putting in the work required to get there. She has big goals and we are so excited to see what the future holds for her.”
