Cayson Farley scored 20 points to lead Evarts to a 45-9 season-opening win Thursday over visiting Black Mountain in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.
Kash Gooden paced the Tigers with five points.
Rayce Bryant poured in 17 points as Evarts won 45-9 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
Jace Lefevers led Black Mountain with five points.
Asher Cox scored six as Evarts won 6-4 in fourth-grade action.

Comets open season with doubleheader sweep at Wallins
Cawood opened the middle school season Thursday with a pair of hard-fought wins at Wallins.
Kaydon Gray scored 22 points and Shawn Smith added 10 as the Comets won 41-40 in seventh- and eighth-grade action.
Leland Cope and Landon Blackwelder led the Purple Devils with 13 points each.
Gray also led Cawood in the fifth- and sixth-grade game with 28 points.
Cope scored 19 and Sam Carmical added 11 for Wallins.
Wallins won 12-3 in the fourth-grade game as Eli Blevins scored 10 for the Devils.

A balanced offensive carried James A. Cawood to a season-opening 47-28 win Thursday at Cumberland in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.
Win Cooper scored 14 to lead the Trojans. Caleb Mitchell and Easton Engle added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Hunter Fuson poured in 21 points for the Redskins.
JACES won 36-15 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Tucker Daniels scored 15 for the Trojans.
Karson McBee led Cumberland with six points.
