Harlan County’s Kateria Lewis set the ball during a district clash against Middlesboro earlier this season. The Lady Bears avenged their earlier loss with a four-set victory Tuesday at Middlesboro.

Off to an 0-2 start in district action, the Harlan County Lady Bears needed a win in the worst way Tuesday at Middlesboro. The Lady Bears responded with a 25-16, 25-14 17-25, 25-22 victory.
“The girls came in playing strong,” Harlan County coach Christina Spurlock said. “The third set we started making little mistakes that added up. But they fought through and got the win. We had more energy and excitement, which we have been missing.”
Lindsey Browning led 2-3 Lady Bears with five service aces, one block and five kills. Gracie Ewing added two service aces, three digs and one kill. Kamryn Hoiska had one ace and one kill. Kateria Lewis added one ace, one dig, one assist and one kill. Lilly Caballero contributed two digs, one block and one kill. Lindsay Hall had one ace. Michaela Gross added one dig. Brenna Early had one kill.
HCHS improved to 4-1 in junior varsity action with a 21-15, 21-10 victory.
Brooklyn Wood, Ashton Evans and Emilee Eldridge led the Lady Bears with three service points each. Evans had three aces, while Eldridge and Wood added two each.
Harlan County returns to action Thursday at Lynn Camp. Middlesboro (1-3) plays host to Bell County on Thursday.

Bell County improved to 3-0 on the season and opened its district slate with a victory by coasting past Harlan County 25-11, 25-8, 25-15 on Monday at HCHS.
Raegan Robbins led the Lady Cats with 14 service aces, 19 digs, 12 assists and three kills. Makenna Lefevers had 10 service aces, 22 digs and eight kills. Clara Bolinger contributed five service aces, nine digs, two digs and three kills. Alli Wilder had two service aces, six digs, four assists and three kills.
Bell won 21-15, 21-10 in junior varsity action.
Chloe Shelton had four service points and Wood added three to lead HCHS.
Bell County travels to Middlesboro on Thursday.
