MANCHESTER — Harlan County dominated at all three levels Monday at Clay County in a summer sweep, highlighted by a 70-29 rout of Leslie County in varsity action.
Junior guard Trent Cole scored 22 points and senior guard Reggie Cottrell added 21 to lead the Bears, who improved to 9-3 on the summer. Sophomore guard Kaden Jones hit four 3-pointers and added 15 points. Tucker Curtis tossed in six, followed by Brady Smith with four and Bryson Bryant with two.
Jones hit a pair of 3s as the Bears raced to a 22-7 lead. Two straight baskets by Cottrell and a 3 from Cole pushed the HCHS advantage to 33-11. Cotrell and Cole teamed for 11 baskets in the first half as the Bears led 39-13 at the break,.
Cole had four baskets in the second half while Cottrell, Smith and Jones added two each.
Bryant poured in 22 points while Curtis and Hayden Grace added 10 each as HCHS claimed a 54-38 win over Bluegrass United in junior varsity action. Rydge Lewis and Hunter Fuson scored four each. Easton Engle and Hudson Faulkner added two each.
The Harlan County freshman team won 57-37 over Leslie County. No scoring information was available.
The Bears return to action Wednesday at UVA-Wise.
