
The county middle school basketball league opened play Friday night at Harlan County High School with the fifth- and sixth-grade division of the Harlan County Lady Bears Panorama.
Black Mountain scored the final eight points to rally for a 12-8 win over Cumberland in the opening scrimmage.
Olivia Whitaker led the Lady Tigers with six points.
Mylah Marshall paced Cumberland with five points.
Evarts featured a balanced attack with nine in the scoring column on the way to a 28-20 win over Wallins. Anna Kayte Clark led the Lady Cats with five points.
Maddilyn Helton led Wallins with 14 points.
Campbell Thompson scored nine points and Bella Ford added eight as Cawood coasted to a 26-8 win over Rosspoint.
Khloe Daniels scored 10 points as James A. Cawood edged Evarts 18-16 in the closest and final scrimmage of the night.
Bailey Haynes led Evarts with nine points.
The county seventh- and eighth-grade panorama is set for Saturday at HCHS with James A. Cawood playing Cumberland at 10 a.m., followed by Wallins taking on Cawood at 11 a.m., then Rosspoint against Evarts at noon and Cawood playing Black Mountain at 1 p.m.
