After having three of its first four games canceled, the Harlan County boys soccer team opened the home portion of its season Monday at the James A. Cawood Elementary School field with a 4-0 win over Letcher County Central.
Junior Luther Gross scored three times and added an assist for coach Tommy Key’s Black Bears, while freshman Leslie Pitts scored his first varsity goal. Freshman Mason Howard had two assists for HCHS, while freshman Bryson Robins also added an assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Wesley Greene was credited with 15 saves, along with his first varsity shutout.
The Black Bears are 1-1 this season, and have had two games canceled due to a shortage of referees, along with a game where the opposing team could not procure a bus.
Harlan County returns to action on Thursday to face Knox Central in a 6 p.m. game at JACES.
