The Harlan cross country team traveled to Berea on Saturday to compete in the Berea Community Invitational.
The Lady Dragons were 12th overall. The Dragons placed 13th.
Harper Carmical led the girls, placing 24th with a time of 22.16.37. Priscilla Stewart finished 75th with a time of 27:03.66. Josephine Toll (28:11.30) and Cora Jones (28:35.11) were 81st and 83rd, respectively. Amy Roman (115th) and Gwendolyn Toll (117th) finished with times of 33:30.50 and 33:51.27, respectively. Addison Lemar was 122nd with a time of 35:23.67.
“Harper Carmical had another season PR. She continues to be a leader for the girls varsity team as we get closer to our region race,” Harlan cross country coach Erin Alred said.
To pace the boys, Gibson Wilder finished 66th with a time of 20:51.48. Cooper Thomas was 90th with a time of 21:27.52. Garrett Wilder (99th) finished with a time of 22:12.89. Cruz Galloway (22:40.19) and Xavier Farley (22:44.52) were 110th and 112th, respectively.
“Our varsity boys team all finished under 23 minutes today, with everyone hitting their season PR,” Alred said.
The boys elementary team placed second overall.
Tyler White (8:07.87) won the boys kindergarten and first-grade race. He was immediately followed by Ryder Bailey (8:22.42). Jason Mills finished seventh with a time of 9:04.20. Sherman Ward placed 18th with a time of 10:54.40.
Emmett Alred finished seventh with a time of 7:55.21 in the boys second- and third-grade race. Ashwin Ganti (31st) finished with a time of 9:17.48. Raylan Simpson was 38th with a time of 9:52.63. Mason Howard placed 44th with a time of 10:26.71.
In the boys fourth- and fifth-grade race, Braxton Sizemore finished eighth with a time of 6:58.49. Ben Toll placed 10th with a time of 6:59.85. Aiden Browning (7:06.38) and Kash Bailey (7:16.52) were 14th and 20th, respectively. Kelton Dean (47th) finished with a time of 8:20.70. Weston Simpson placed 62nd with a time of 9:15.90.
“The fourth- and fifth-grade boys took home the first place trophy,” Alred said.
The girls elementary team finished fourth overall.
In the girls kindergarten and first-grade race, Rayleigh Hoskins was fourth with a time of 10:19.59.
McKinley Taylor finished second overall with a time of 8:00.86 in the girls second- and third-grade race. Lucy Miller placed fourth with a time of 8:07.70. Shelby Parsons (11th) finished with a time of 8:22.54. Rounding out the results were Mallory Sizemore (19th, 8:44.88), Ellianna Carver (20th, 8:45.68), Ramsi Fields (22nd, 9:00.26) and Amelia Hensley (35th, 9:57.14).
“The second- and third-grade girls were ready to race today. They took home the first place team trophy,” Alred said.
Emily Turner placed 34th with a time of 9:10.77 in the girls fourth- and fifth-grade race. Macie Lawson (12:20.18) and Addison Browning (13:19.55) finished 52nd and 57th, respectively.
The boys middle school team was 10th.
In the boys middle school race, Carter White placed 40th with a time of 13:38.44. Aiden Burnett (14:20.58) finished 47th. Thomas Miller (14:43.13) and Trenton Turner (15:03.80) were 58th and 63rd, respectively. Dalton Halcomb was 79th with a time of 16:09.64. Liam Cook (20:04.06) placed 119th.
Zoe Lawson paced the middle school girls, finishing 11th with a time of 13:53.20. Shelbee Miller placed 91st with a time of 23:49.88.
“As a coach, I am very proud of the growth and determination all of these runners are making this season,” Alred said. “As we go into the downward slide of the season, we are peaking at the right time. I can’t wait to see what they do next.”
Harlan’s next meet will be Saturday at Harlan County for the Bob Howard Memorial Invitational/Area 9 Championships.

Harlan’s Tanner Daniels competed in the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational on Saturday at Louisville.
Daniels placed 38th in his respective race with a time of 15:46.11.
“Tanner ran in Louisville today at the Trinity / Valkyrie Invitational,” Alred said. “He had a personal PR day running the 5K.”
