
Harlan’s cross country teams competed at Morgan County on Saturday.
The Dragons placed second overall with 91 points. The Lady Dragons finished fourth overall with 77 points.
Cooper Thomas led the boys, finishing 12th with a time of 21:49.95. Dalton Halcomb was 18th with a time of 22:36.51. Xavier Farley (23:23.92) and Carter White (23:27.61) placed 24th and 26th, respectively. Gibson Wilder (38th) finished with a time of 24:50.46. Thomas Miller (24:58.30) was 40th, immediately followed by Garrett Wilder (25:08.72) and Cruz Galloway (25:08.82).
To pace the girls, Harper Carmical placed fourth with a time of 22:47.93. Priscilla Stewart (27:40.35) and Lillie Carver (27:54.87) finished 18th and 20th, respectively. Josephine Toll was 37th with a time of 30:54.45. Gwendolyn Toll placed 45th with a time of 32:43.80.
The fourth-grade and under boys and girls won.
“The Harlan elementary team had a day for the books! Every runner that showed up for the Mountain Championship Elementary Classic had their PR for a 2K course, and they had fun doing it,” Harlan cross country coach Erin Alred said.
Braxton Sizemore (8:23.28) won the boys fourth-grade and under race. He was immediately followed by Kash Bailey (8:32.88). Tyler White (9:26.68) and Emmett Alred (9:39.29) were fifth and ninth, respectively. Ryder Bailey finished 19th with a time of 10:34.64. Sherman Ward (30th) finished with a time of 12:07.24.
“Braxton Sizemore earned a first-place finish. He has locked in this year and been a great leader for our young runners,” Alred said.
In the girls fourth-grade and under race, McKinley Taylor finished fourth with a time of 9:31.73. She was immediately followed by Lucy Miller (9:42.21). Emily Turner was 10th with a time of 10:05.39, immediately followed by Ramsi Fields (10:12.06). Ellianna Carver (14th) finished with a time of 10:38.89. Oakley Moody placed 25th with a time of 12:29.36.
“MJ Taylor, Lucy Miller and Emily Turner came out to work today and rallied together to win first place,” Alred said.
Julianne Miller won the girls sixth-grade and under race with a time of 8:08.40. Shelbee Miller finished 21st with a time of 12:41.95.
“Julianne Miller had the fastest time of the day, earning a first-place finish,” Alred said. “It has been so much fun watching her grow and fall in love with running.”
In the boys sixth-grade and under race, Trenton Turner placed third with a time of 8:39.06. He was immediately followed by Ben Toll (8:40.49). Canaan Bolton (9:59.46) was 15th.
“We are so proud on how these elementary students finished their season. Finishing on top and with PRs will set the tone for next season. They are hungry to grow and reach new goals,” Alred said. “The Harlan Green Dragons are excited to run and build our program. The sky is the limit for these young runners.”
Harlan’s varsity teams will return to action Saturday at Morgan County for the Class A, Region 6 meet.
