Harlan cross county coach Erin Alred expects big performances from her teams on Saturday as they travel to Morgan County to compete in the Class A, Region 6 championship.
“This is our first region in Morgan County. We were thankful to have the opportunity to experience the course last Saturday,” Alred said. “Our runners liked the course. They think it will be a fast region course, and they are hoping for a PR day. I believe with the atmosphere of region, the adrenaline it brings and the forecast, they will have the best race of the season.”
Varsity members for the boys include Tanner Daniels, Dalton Halcomb, Cooper Thomas, Gibson Wilder, Garrett Wilder, Cruz Galloway and Xavier Farley.
Carter White is an alternate.
On the girls squad, varsity members are Harper Carmical, Priscilla Stewart, Lillie Carver, Cora Jones, Josephine Toll, Gwen Toll and Amy Roman.
Addison Lemar is an alternate.
“Our teams have put in the work and are ready to hit the course. I am beyond proud of their motivation to complete this season. At the beginning of the season, having two full teams was a question. We also had first-year runners. We now have two full teams and kids who can go the distance,” Alred said. “The turnaround for our program this year describes the character of our kids. They worked together to encourage one another when times were tough or when some had second thoughts. In the end, they showed up for their teammates.
“When Saturday comes around and they are standing on that line, I can’t tell you who will be the standout athlete. They all have the potential to go out there, be a leader and shock the region. They all want the same goal: a chance to take their team to state. I think they will do just that.”
