Tigerettes, winless a year ago, open season by defeating Rosspoint


Black Mountain’s Addison Campbell and Rheagan Halcomb trapped Rosspoint’s Aiselyn Sexton in fifth- and sixth-grade basketball action Tuesday. Halcomb scored seven points and Campbell added six as Black Mountain opened the season with a 25-17 win.

The Black Mountain Tigerettes had the look of a team that could go from worst to first in this year’s fifth- and sixth-grade county basketball league in Tuesday’s opening games.
Black Mountain, 0-13 last season, opened the season at James A. Cawood Elementary School with a 25-17 win over Rosspoint, last year’s county runner-up team.
Rheagan Halcomb scored seven points and Addison Campbell added six to lead Black Mountain.
Kayleigh Templeton paced Rosspoint with seven points.
Abby Elliott scored eight as JACES defeated Evarts 23-5.
Reagan Landa poured in 19 points as Wallins rolled past Cumberland 32-12 in the opening game.
Seventh- and eighth-grade action is set for Thursday with Cumberland playing Wallins at 6 p.m., followed by Evarts taking on James A. Cawood and Black Mountain playing Rosspoint.
