Middlesboro, Knox claim shutout wins in district soccer

Harlan County’s Hayley Key worked around a Middlesboro defense in district soccer action Monday. The Lady Jackets advanced with a 1-0 victory.

Middlesboro and Knox Central advanced to the finals of the 50th District Tournament with wins Monday at the James A. Cawood field.
The Lady Jackets edged Harlan County 1-0 on penalty kicks as Madison Irvin had the only goal. Jordyn Ferguson recorded five goal keeper saves.
Harlan County ended its season with a 4-2 record.
Knox Central rolled to a 10-0 win over Bell County in the second semifinal as Ivy Partin led the Lady Panthers with four goals. Emily Grubb had two goals. Mackenzi Hopper, Caylan Mills, Madison Payne and Taylor Payne had one goal each.
Bell County ended its season with a record of 0-9.
Middlesboro (5-6) will play Knox Central (6-4) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the championship game.
