Harlan County bounced back from a season-opening loss Thursday with a 5-2 win Friday at Letcher Central. The Bears broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run fifth inning.
Zayden Casolari and Jesse Gilbert teamed on a five-hitter. Casolari earned the win as he gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits in five innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Gilbert struck out three and walked one in two hitless innings to earn the save.
Brennan Blevins and Carson Clark led the HCHS offense with a double and single each. Colston Boggs singled twice. Casolari had a double. DaShaun Smith, Brayden Morris, Gilbert and Gunner Burkhart each added singles.
Smith led off the fifth inning with a single, stole second and scored on a hit by Boggs. Burkhart followed with an RBI hit. Casolari closed the scoring with an RBI single.
The 1-1 Bears play at Barbourville on Saturday.
