BARBOURVILLE — Moving up a seventh grader to pitch on the high school varsity level was something of a gamble for Harlan County coach Scotty Bailey coming into the 2026 season.
Logan Mills is making the decision look good only a week into the season. He teamed with Aiden Lewis for a no-hitter in the Bears’ 17-0 win Saturday afternoon at Barbourville. Mills struck out five and walked three over three innings to earn the win. Lewis struck out three and walked one in one inning.
“We saw him in the summer, and we thought he could help us. Logan came in the other day against a real good South Laurel and did a good job. He really settled in today and threw very well,” Bailey said. “His fastball looks good and so did his off-speed stuff. He threw strikes also and has a great pickoff move already.”
Senior outfielder Colston Boggs continued his hot start with two doubles and a single with three runs scored. Brennan Blevins had two doubles and two RBI. Jesse Gilbert and Carson Clark had two singles each with Gilbert scoring three runs. Hayston Hensley had a three-run triple. Kayden Adams and Zayden Casolari each added doubles. Gunner Burkhart, DaShaun Smith and Jackson Mackowiak had one single each.
“They kind of settled in yesterday and did a good job against a good Letcher Central team (a 5-2 win). It was a short turnaround today, and you don’t know what you’ll get, but they settled in and battled and hit some hard shots and that’s all you can ask for.”
The 2-1 Bears return to action Friday at home against Shelby Valley.
