A 3-0 win over Harlan County in last year’s tournament helped propel Rockcastle County to a 2A Section 7 title.
Alexis Adams and the Lady Bears gained some revenge Saturday as Adams pitched a one-hitter in the Lady Bears’ 3-0 victory.
“When Lexi is locked in and controlling the game from the circle, we’re at our best,” Harlan County coach Shelby Burton said. “A year ago, we managed just one hit against Rockcastle. Today we ended up with 11 total. That’s growth for our program and a step in the right direction for this team.”
Adams struck out nine and walked none as she took a no-hitter into the seventh inning until Rayleigh Hancock singled. The Lady Bears had only one error.
“Our fielding was solid all the way around today. We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” Burton said,
Jordyn Smith led the Harlan County offense with two doubles and a single from the leadoff spot. Kendall Brock had a double and single, Raegan Landa singled twice. Aly Sherman, Adams, Bella Miniard and Jaylin Robinson had one single each.
The 1-1 Lady Bears play host to Barbourville on Monday. HCHS will play McCreary Central on Tuesday in the 2A semifinals at Corbin at 6. Corbin will play County at 7:30. The championship game is set for Wednesday at 6.
