Caldwell powers Bears to win at Middlesboro
Led by four hits from Carter Caldwell, including a home run, Harlan County won a 19-16 slugfest at Middlesboro in middle school baseball action Friday.
Gabriel Helton added three hits for the Bears. Seth Johnson had a double and single. Maddox Helton and Cian Garland added two singles each. Brylee Southerland, Grant Caldwell and Carson Sanders contributed one single each.
Johnson earned the win on the mound as he pitched the final 3 2/3 innings. Helton and Garland each pitched in the opening inning.
Ford leads Lady Bears to victory over Harlan
Bella Ford drove in three runs with a triple and double to lead Harlan County to a 9-7 win over Harlan in middle school softball action.
Cayleean Yount added a triple for the Lady Bears. Khloe Daniels had a double. Zoey Reed contributed a single.
Daniels pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and three walks.
Jerrah Phillips led Harlan with a triple and single and two RBI. Gracie Estes and Chloe Brock each singled twice. Lily Daniels had a double. Addyson Estes, Kennedy Estes and Averi Jenkins added one single each.

The loss was the first in five games for the Lady Dragons, who defeated Lynn Camp 25-4, Barbourville 23-3, Middlesboro 18-8 and Pineville 22-3.
