Harlan County lefty Alexis Adams has been impressive numerous times in victory this spring in a breakout junior campaign.
She was ever more impressive in defeat Friday at South Laurel, giving up only three hits in a 1-0 loss to one of the top teams in eastern Kentucky.
South junior Kenzie Williams was even more dominant as she struck out 18, walked none and allowed only two hits — a double by Raegan Landa and single by Carmen Thomas. The 13th Region Media Network reported that Williams became South’s career leader in strikeouts (now has 832) and the career leader in wins with 67.
South scored the game’s only run in the first inning as Bailey Frazier doubled, took third on Morgan Jackson’s single and scored on Williams’ sacrifice fly.
“This was an absolute battle against one of the best teams in the region. I’m proud of our girls and the way they competed from start to finish,” Harlan County coach Shelby Burton said. “We got a strong performance in the circle from Lexi tonight.”
The 10-6 Lady Bears travel to Whitley County on Monday.
