James A. Cawood quarterback Tim Saylor talked with coach Wendell Wheeler during the 1968 season.

Wendell Wheeler, the second football coach in James A. Cawood High School history, died last week. Wheeler is pictured talking with all-state quarterback Tim Saylor, who was later the superintendent of the Harlan County School District. The Trojans posted a 5-4-1 record in 1969, the first winning season in school history. Wheeler coached the Trojans for four years and was a teacher for 27 years before his retirement.
