Losers of six of seven games just two weeks ago, the Harlan Green Dragons have turned their season around with a win streak that has reached seven straight. The Dragons rolled to a doubleheader sweep on Thursday at Barbourville with wins of 17-0 and 20-4, then coasted to a 16-4 victory Friday at Williamsburg.
Senior eighth-hander Jake Brewer pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks in the opener Thursday.
Jaxson Perry continued his hot start with five RBI on a double and two singles. Eli Freyer drove in four runs with a double and single. Baylor Varner and Braxton Bowen added two singles each. Chris Rouse, Caiden Jackson and Grant Shelton added one single each.
Caiden Meadors pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap with four strikeouts and four walks.
Varner and Marietta led the Harlan offense as Varner had three hits and scored four runs while Marietta added two hits and three RBI. Freyer, Owens and Cooper Thomas added one single each.
Thomas earned the win as he allowed three unearned runs on four hits and four walks in fie innings. Rouse allowed one run on four hits in two innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
Brewer led the Harlan offense with three singles and four RBI. Jackson added a double and single. Shelton hit the first home run of his high school career. Perry singled twice. Harlan Marietta had a two-run double. Freyer and Owens added singles. Varner scored three runs on three walks. Shelton drove in three runs.
The 12-7 Dragons play at Bell County on Monday in a key district game.
