The Harlan County Lady Bears won the Queen of the Mountains middle school softball tournament on Saturday at Letcher Central High School on Saturday.
Harlan County opened with an 11-1 win over Letcher Central before falling to Fleming Neon 12-4 in the winners’ bracket finals. The Lady Bears bounced back to Letcher 9-3 and then Neon 4-0 to set up a showdown against Neon for the championship. The Lady Bears improved to 21-2 on the season with a 10-2 win.
Khloe Daniels pitched a no-hitter in the first game with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Aniston Burton led the HC offense with a triple and single along with three runs and two RBI. Lexi Boggs singled twice and drove in two runs. Daniels, Cayleeann Yount and Zoey Reed added singles.
Boggs led the Lady Bears in the second game with a triple and two singles and two RBI. Yount and Ford had two singles each. Daniels and Campbell Thompson added one single each.
Yount gave up seven hits and five earned runs with four strikeouts and two walks.
Daniels pitched a four-hitter in the third game. Yount and Thompson each had three hits with Yount driving in three runs and Thompson scoring two. Burton and Ford each had two hits.
Boggs had a double and single in the fourth game. Ford singled twice. Andrea Napier added a double. Burton, Daniels and Thompson added one single each.
Daniels pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.
Boggs led the Lady Bears in the championship game with a double, two singles and three RBI. Yount drove in two runs with a triple and single. Ford had a double and single. Burton singled twice. Daniels and Reed added doubles. Embrey Engle had a single.
Daniels gave up six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
