Favorites advance to semifinals in county 5-6 tourney

The top seeds advanced in the opening night of the county fifth- and sixth-grade tournament on Tuesday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Abby Elliott scored 12 points and Carmen Thomas added nine as James A. Cawood opened the night with a 25-4 win over Cawood.

Kendall Brock led Wallins to a 23-13 win over Evarts in the second game.

Shawnee Peace paced Evarts with 12 points

Rosspoint rolled to a 34-4 win over Cumberland as Jaycee Simpson, Jalee Cochran and Kayleigh Templeton scored six each.

The semifinals are set for Friday as Black Mountain takes on James A. Cawood and Wallins plays Rosspoint.
