Rosspoint, Evarts advance to county finals

Drucilla Brown, pictured in action earlier this season, scored 19 points on Thursday as Evarts defeated Cawood in the county tournament.

It was a night of upsets Thursday in the seventh- and eighth-grade county tournament semifinals at James A. Cawood Elementary School, The top-seeded Trojanettes lost for the first time this year, falling 28-26 to Rosspoint, while second-seeded Cawood dropped a 37-32 decision to Evarts.
Peyton Lunsford scored 10 and Lindsey Skidmore added eight to lead Rosspoint.
Leah Davis paced the Trojanettes with 11 points.
Drucilla Brown poured in 19 in Evarts’ win.
Cheyanne Rhymer led Cawood with 16 points. Maddi Middleton scored 14.
Evarts will play Rosspoint on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at Harlan County High School in the championship game. Cawood and James A. Cawood will play at 5 for third place.
