Rosspoint captured the county fifth- and sixth-grade championship with a 30-23 win over Black Mountain on Saturday. Team members include, from left, front row: Elly Cox, Charli Shepherd, Jaycee Simpson, Reagan Clem, Emily Marsee and Kayleigh Templeton; back row: coach John Simpson, Aiselyn Sexton, Maggie Clem, Lauren Lewis, Shasta Brackett, Barbara Osborne, Brooklyn Daniels, Emmalyn Branson, Jaylee Cochran, assistant coach Randy Daniels and Kim Hensley.

In a 38-3 loss to Black Mountain on Nov. 2, the Rosspoint Lady Cats’ championship hopes for this season looked anything but promising.
Rosspoint avenged its only two losses of the season at the most opportune time, grabbing the lead early on the way to a 30-23 win over Black Mountain on Saturday afternoon at Harlan County High School in the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament finals.
“I’m proud of my girls for the effort they showed tonight. The last game we played them we lost by almost 40, so that took a lot of grit to come back and and have the confidence to go out and do what they did tonight,” Rosspoint coach John Simpson said. “The game plan was to get up and down the court as often and as fast as possible, and they did a great job in executing. In a crazy season, these girls stayed committed during all the shutdowns, and I had all the confidence in the end they would have their chances.”
Reagan Clem scored 13 points and Shasta Brackett added nine to lead the 10-2 Lady Cats.
Black Mountain was led by Julia Vick with eight points and Addison Campbell with six. The Tigerettes finished 9-1 on the season, winning eight regular-season games by just under 26 points a game.
“Congratulations to Black Mountain on a great year,” Simpson said. “That’s one of the most dominant teams in fifth- and sixth-grade girls basketball that I can remember. They all contribute, so it makes it tough to game plan for them. Their coaches did a wonderful job with them.”
