Opponents in the 53rd District and 14th Region finals each of the past two seasons, Letcher Central and Knott Central have grown accustomed to down-to-the-wire basketball. That was the case once again Friday as Letcher rallied in the fourth quarter for a 55-53 victory in Hindman.
Brooke Bates and Kaylee Banks each scored 16 and Keira Couch added 14 to lead the balanced Letcher offense.
Abby Maggard led the 3-2 Lady Patriots with 21 points. Presley Fletcher scored 14.
Knott got off to a strong start offensively behind Maggard, who hit five of six 3-pointers, in building a 20-14 lead after one quarter. The lead grew to 35-23 by halftime.
Letcher outscored Knott 20-10 in the third quarter to pull within two heading into the final period.
