Asher’s three-point play caps Clay’s comeback win over HC

Taylor Asher’s three-point play in the closing seconds completed a Clay County comeback as the host Lady Tigers rallied for a 44-43 win over Harlan County.
The Lady Bears grabbed a 14-8 lead after one quarter and stayed on top most of the night, including 24-18 at halftime. HCHS led by 10 early in the third quarter was on top 35-31 going into the final period.
Asher scored 16 to lead the 6-7 Lady Tigers.
Ella Karst led the 7-9 Lady Bears with 12 points. Jacey Lewis and Jaylin Smith added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Harlan County returns to action Saturday at home in a 1 p.m. game against Middlesboro.

Harlan County rolled to a 41-17 win in junior varsity action and improved to 6-5 on the season.
Leah Davis led the Lady Bears with 10 points. Taytum Griffin scored eight and was followed by Hailey Austin with seven, Taylor Lunsford, Jenna Wilson and Haley Middleton with four each and Kylie Jones and Paige Phillips with two each.
Madelyn Smith led Clay County with six points. Madison Jones scored four. Sidney Jones and Alexis Spurlock added two each. Daisy Samples, Brianna Swafford and Emma Jones scored one each.
