HCHS girls rally for win over South Laurel in tennis action

The Harlan County Lady Bears claimed what is likely their most impressive win of the season with a 5-3 victory over South Laurel. The HCHS boys lost 9-0 to South. Both Harlan County teams lost in matches at North Laurel earlier in the week.

“I’m very proud of the approach our girls team is taking this season. Their drive and determination shows each time they are practicing or in play. I’m very proud of how they are each developing as players,” Harlan County coach Caleb Bailey said. “Our boys hit a tough spot today against a very good South Laurel team. A lot can be taken from this loss for the boys. We have correct the mistakes we are making moving forward. Our girls three losses against Knox and North are nothing to hang our heads about. We swept doubles action and protected home court for the win. We have a young team on both sides outside of our two seniors in Tony and Cody. We are still learning. I have no doubt we will correct the ship. Our teams fought hard. I’m proud of our kids.”

The Black Bears (2-4) and Lady Bears (3-3) return to action on Saturday at Letcher County Central.
