Dragons fall to Bell, close season at 6-7

Harlan finished the middle school baseball season with a 6-7 record.

Harlan closed its season Friday with a hard-fought 9-7 loss to visiting Bell County in middle school baseball action.
Baylor Varner led the Dragons with a double and three singles. Chris Rouse had four singles. Joseph Hoskins added two singles. Luke Luttrell had a double. Matthew Nunez, Brody Owens, Eli Freyer and Jaxson Perry added one single each. Varner drove in three runs. Luttrell and Hoskins added one RBI each.
Varner struck out six and walked five in four innings on the mound. Freyer struck out four and walked four in 2 2/3 innings. Perry had a strikeout and walk as he recorded the final out.
The Dragons finished the season at 6-7 and coach Chuck Owens is looking forward to next spring with only two players moving on to high school.
“We had a great season and were competitive with every team that we played,” Owens said. “This group is starting to learn how to win and doesn’t quit. I think the future of Harlan baseball is bright.”
