Harlan County teams fall at Meece

Harlan County suffered a pair of middle school football losses Saturday in Somerset, falling to Meece 28-14 in the seventh-grade game and 28-8 in the eighth-grade game.
Braydon Middleton and Brayden Morris each scored touchdowns to lead the Bears in the seventh-grade game. Middleton ran for 104 yards on 14 carries and Morris added 96 yards on 19 carries with a two-point conversion Hunter Moore contributes seven yards on two carries. Kaydon Adams completed two of two passes for 13 yards, both to Morris.
Middleton, Morris and Moore had three tackles each. Isiah Lawson added two tackles and a fumble recovery.
Gage Bailey led the Bears in the second game with 50 yards on 10 carries. Jayce Brown had 42 yards on nine carries. Shemarr Carr had 34 yards on 10 carries. Connor Daniels added eight yards on two carries. Bailey completed all three of his pass attempts for 15 yards. Brown had one catch for 11 yards and Hunter Napier added two for four yards.
Bailey led in tackles with four. Gunner Burkhart added two.
Brown scored the Bears’ touchdown on a 12-yard run. Bailey added the two-point conversion.
“We continue to give up the big play. Offensively we move the ball but as a team we aren’t committed to flying around on defense,” Harlan County coach Scott Caldwell said. “This is a tough league we are in, but I would rather our kids and team have to work hard than to coast with a different schedule.  Ultimately, this will better prepare them for high school.”
Harlan County returns to action Thursday at South Laurel.

Balanced attack carries Rosspoint to win at Evarts

Led by eight points each from Maliyah Washington and Addison Gray, visiting Rosspoint edged Evarts 28-25 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.
Rheagan Halcomb led Evarts with 13 points.
Reagan Clem scored 10 a Rosspoint coasted to a 44-4 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Kylee Runions scored 16 points to lead Wallins in a 34-27 win over Black Mountain in fifth- and sixth-grade basketball action Thursday.

Skidmore leads Rosspoint past Cawood, Cumberland

Lindsey Skidmore scored 16 points as Rosspoint rolled to a 40-21 win over visiting Cawood in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Tuesday.
Ally Stewart led Cawood with 13 points.
Rosspoint won 45-11 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Reagan Clem scored 13 and Jaycee Simpson added nine for the Lady Cats.
Riley Clem led Cawood with nine points.
Skidmore tossed in 12 as Rosspoint downed Cumberland 41-11 on Monday.
D’Anna Cook paced Cumberland with four points.
Simpson scored 10 while Lauren Lewis and Clem added eight each as Rosspoint won 34-0 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.
Rosspoint won 20-4 in a fourth-grade game as Kennedy Sturgill scored 13 for the Lady Cats.

Riley Clem scored 15 points as Cawood rolled to a 25-6 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
