Lady Dragons rally past Barbourville and into All A finals

After an eight-day break between the quarterfinals and semifinals due to weather delays in the 13th Region All “A” Classic, the Harlan Lady Dragons struggled to get started on Wednesday in a matchup against Barbourville.
Barbourville led after each of the first three quarters, but the Lady Dragons outscored the Lady Tigers 16-12 in the fourth period to win 56-54 and advance to Thursday’s championship game against Jackson County.
Freshman wing Aymanni Wynn scored nine of her 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead the 7-8 Lady Dragons. Sophomore guard Emma Owens scored six of her 14 points in the final period, including the game-winning basket in the closing seconds off a turnover.
Senior center Brianna Gallagher poured in 29 points to lead the 6-7 Lady Tigers. Senior guard Sarah Smith scored 13.
Jackson County advanced with a 59-42 win over Middlesboro in the first semifinal. Abby Gilbert scored 16 and Natalie Carl added 12 for the 12-3 Lady Generals.
Kaylie Owens led the 6-9 Lady jackets with 15 points. Kevin Betts and Grace Gent added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The championship game is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. at Williamsburg.
